Description: This object is among the best preserved of the glass vessels unearthed at Nishapur, in northeastern Iran, by a Metropolitan Museum team in the 1930s and 1940s. It was probably of local manufacture and use. Nishapur was a thriving center of arts and crafts as well as a commercial hub along the Silk Road in the early Islamic period until the Mongol invasion in the mid-thirteenth century.
