The Maps from the Japanese Historical Map Collection may be viewed in two formats: the LUNA Browser and the Insight® Java client. In addition, limited content is available using a special GIS Browser that allows detailed overlays of historical maps and current geospatial data.

The collection is available over the World Wide Web using a standard Web browser such as Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. The LUNA Browser format has been designed as a convenient yet advanced viewer that requires no download. The Insight® Java client is an older viewer that requires downloading. For most users, the LUNA Browser version is recommended.
