Context:
Very little is known about the English silver designer Kate Harris, although she worked for the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd in 1899 and for William Hutton & Sons in the early years of the twentieth century. Her known designs are characterized by the flowing lines and organic motifs of the Art Nouveau style. An illustration in the International Studio magazine of November 1901 excludes the lid, which may have been added at a later date.
