Context:
The central panels of this celadon garden seat is decorated with four cartouches, each containing a flowering peony with the upper and lower bands comprised of floral scrolls. Decorative and resistant to weather, high-fired glazed ceramics made excellent garden furniture. Ceramic garden stools were produced in a variety of glazes including celadon, blue and white and fa-hua.
