Description:
This is a remarkably elaborate and fine example of a little-known type of ewer. Worthy of special note is the pomegranate finial on the handle; the cursive inscription on the shoulder?an unusual feature at this period, when most inscriptions are in kufic; and the scene on the body , which includes a man and a saluki chasing a hare, and a man fighting a lion. All are set against a background of circular, spiraling floral scrolls.
