Description:
Large basins of this same general shape?with its flat base, curved vertical wall, and everted, faceted rim with scalloped and pointed edges?have been dated as early as the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Basins were used to catch the water poured from a ewer when washing one's hands. This basin, called tasht in Persian, is one of the most accomplished examples of Ilkhanid metalwork. The interior is completely covered with an arresting arrangement of succeeding rows of courtly entertainment and pastimes, figural and floral motifs, and animals and mythical beasts.
