Context:
|
Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1835, this painting is a product of Turner's visit to Venice two years earlier. Although it is topographically accurate, the work combines two viewpoints: the bank of the canal at the left is seen from the steps of Santa Maria della Salute and that on the right, from the Campo del Traghetto di Santa Maria del Giglio on the opposite side. |
