Context:
This edged weapon of highest quality is notable for the especially handsome configuration of hilt, pommel, quillions, and guard. It is a superb example of the so-called "Pappenheim" style of rapier hilt popularized during the Thirty Years War (1616-1648). The blade is also very finely wrought and bears the mark (a unicorn head) of the German swordsmith, Clemens Horn, of Solingen, a town near Düsseldorf known for this craft.
