Context:
As the use of geometric patterning decreased during the 15th century, floral motifs gradually assumed greater prominence. The sophisticated combination of elements in this colorful fragment include large split palmette leaves in ivory silk framing yellow interlacing knots in a leafy surround plus prominent floral buds, arranged with dynamic effect in staggered rows.
