Context:
The Age of Bronze was created by Rodin shortly after his return from Italy. There he had seen Michelangelo's sculpture and on the basis of its influence developed his mature style. Realism of detail was incorporated into figures full of suggestions of life-like movement. The Age of Bronze changed the course of sculpture and made of Rodin the greatest innovator of his time in that field.
