Kagei specialized in decorative paintings of flowers and was known for his daring use of color. He worked in a style similar to that of Ogata K?rin (see his Pheasant and Grasses painting in this gallery). Among the autumn flowers depicted here are hibiscus, pampas grass, oxydendrum, and sorrel-wood, noted for its warm red foliage in the fall.
