Context:

The Sikasingo venerate ancestors or "great ones" with altars in the form of miniature houses constructed near dwellings. Sculptures usually represent several generations: founding mothers or fathers, children, and grandchildren arranged in order of seniority. Displayed on raised platforms, they serve to focus prayers, invocations and offerings. The bold angularity of this figure's head, shoulders, and arms and its dramatic symmetry and frontality evoke a forceful, imposing of a "great one."
