Context:
Among Bwa and Nuna peoples, masks make spiritual forces visible. The bushcow, personifying a forest spirit, performs at funerals to release the deceased's soul from the village. Its costume, consisting of cultivated fibers (sisal), evokes the social forces of the community. The rectangular design, composed of four triangles, is a common motif symbolizing femaleness (fours), males (threes), and families.See video
