Context:
|
The omono (white-bellied monkey) mask is rare in the eighty or more characters portrayed in Dogon masks. It dances to a fast drum rhythm, hopping and crossing one leg in front of the other. For the Dogon, the monkey is a metaphor for improper human behaviors---gluttony, thievery, and laziness---which are satirized in the masked dance performance.
