Context:
The prestige and power of the Ifa cult is indicated by the fact that only Ifa priests and rulers of sacred descent may wear beaded costumes. Pouches such as these are worn around the Ifa priest's neck, and contain ritual items used in divination. The face on each bag panel represents a deity, perhaps a special patron of the priest who commissioned the bags.
