Context:

Although little known today, Tao Hong was proficient in many different techniques and styles. Some of his work is strong, powerful, and somber. Here we see the charming and lyrical side of his artistic personality. Whether depicting returning peasants at dusk, or a long crane standing amidst a bamboo grove, Tao Hong's brushwork is fresh and impeccable, and the final effect luminous and sparkling.
