Subject Description:
Two busts depict Silenus, drinking companion of Dionysos, the god of wine and revelry. They were part of the decoration of 'fulcra' that bridged the connection between the head and the frame of a dining couch. Silenus was typically wreathed with ivy, wearing animal skins, and gripping a wine skin.
