A large promotional map of an early Iowa river town. See Andrea Iowa Atlas, page 402 for the early history of Clinton. The Iowa Land Company speculated that the railroad crossing of the Mississippi would occur at Clinton's site and thus bring many settlers to the area. The Chicago, Iowa and Nebraska Railroad was formed in 1856 (Andreas) and the bridge, tracks and roundhouse are shown on the map, probably prospectively. This map was most likely used for promotion of land sales. Without color. Showing tract names and lot numbers.
