Pub Note:
A scarce descriptive guide to Mexico issued on the eve of the Mexican War. Not listed in any references. On the brown leather cover is gilt stamped "Mexico and Yucatan." The small full color map is, according to the publisher's statement, based on the SDUK map of Mexico. The map has an interesting note: "The road represented on the map from Matamoras to Mexico, is the one which Gen. Taylor will most probably take, should he be directed to march on the capital." The note goes on to say that Upper California has been omitted from the map because it is "improbable that the region in question will ever again be attached to Mexico." Related pocket maps and guides published by Thomas, Cowperthwait and by Mitchell are our #4482 and #3319, #4594.
