Title says "Contracted from his large Map of the State." DeWitt's large map of New York State was published in 1802. This smaller version was made two years later. The Genesee country is still unsettled west of Steuben County. Outline color by county. Map is dissected into 24 sections and mounted on linen. Folds into original marbled card slip case 19x12 with label reading -De Witt's Map of the State of New-York." with -W. Alexander 1808" written in ms. Map is protected in a new light brown cloth folding case 20x12.5 with -New York S. DeWitt 1804" stamped in gilt on the spine.
