Double-page copper engraving. with allegorical title page by Karl Schutz after Vinzenz Georg Kininger, double-page index and explanation, table, 27 double-page engraved maps dated 1795-1796, outline hand-colored with title cartouche. showing administrative divisions, cities and towns, mountains, rivers, canals, ports, forts, etc. Engraved title page shows Measuring instruments, mythological, astronomical, religious, scientific, allegorical hints and facts were united in a composition which depicted the pride of progress in knowledge. Bound in half morocco and marbled board. Includes a separate map of the Americas after d'Anville and Pownall with inset maps of the United States, of Hudson's Bay area, and of Alaska. Also a separate map of Polynesia, showing Ulimaroa (Australia), New Guinea, New Zealand, Van Diemen's land (shown as a peninsula), explorers' routes are delineated and hand-colored, including the most recent ones of Cook's three voyages
