Pub Note:
One of 150 copies. Ernest Clegg, 1876-1954, was an accomplished illustrator and cartographer. Of British origins, he spent multiple periods in the United States before spending his final years in Britain. This map was part of a group of maps that Clegg made somewhat custom for clients - various parts could be filled in with special information at the request of the client. This copy was sold to the Mildred and Pratt Cutter, showing their names and house called "Wits End" in Wainscott, Long Island in the large oval cartouche in the lower left side of the map. It was acquired from their granddaughter. See our 12439.000 for a copy of the same map but uncolored and with an empty cartouche, indicating it was never sold.
