Published by Rand McNally, Chicago, with 2 pages of text on ancient history and 27 pages of "accompanied index in English, contains all the ancient geographical names contained in the maps with explanation of their character ..." Maps are in Latin, copyrighted 1892, by Dietrich Reimer (Ernst Vohsen) Berlin. Engraved outline and full color maps, showing political and administrative boundaries, major cities, towns, roads, rivers, canals and mountains. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridians are Paris and Greenwich. Bound in olive paper covers with black lettering "Atlas Antiquus by Henry Kiepert. Rand McNally & Co., Chicago and New York." Geographer Heinrich Kiepert (1818-1899) is generally considered to be one of the most important scholarly cartographers of the second half of the 19th century.
