Post Route Map of the State of Ohio Showing Post Offices with the Intermediate Distances on Mail Route ... January 1, 1937.
Pub Note:
Map is one in a series of United States Post Office Department route maps acquired from the Railway Mail Service library although maps from other sources are also included. Maps have lists of counties and are in a polyconic projection. Counties typically shown in outline color. Many sheets in this set of 306 maps have routes highlighted with hand drawn colored crayon. This color-coding of railroad routes has significance and was not randomly done. Although railroads are shown on these maps, the identification of Railway Post Office or Highway Post Office routes aren't labeled. All of these maps were owned by Railway Mail Clerks, so their orientation was to dispatch mail by connecting routes. The colors aided them in seeing the alignment of each route since there are often rail junction points and a casual look at the map would not indicate where the RPO or HPO operated. The route markings will follow a railroad track or a HPO route already printed onto the map.
