Pub Note:
"This is a beautiful and rare pictorial map of Mauritius, lithographed in color and published in Johannesburg in 1957. It is decorated with a title cartouche, a compass rose and the coat of arms of the island with its Latin motto "Stella Clavisque Maris Indici" (in English, Star and Key of the Indian Ocean). This tourist map is abundantly illustrated with portraits of famous figures linked to the history of the island (La Bourdonnais, Surcouf, Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, Robert Edward Hart, Baudelaire…), local scenes, views of tourist places, productions of the island and representations of flora and fauna, such as the dodo, the emblematic bird of Mauritius, whose species became extinct at the end of the 17th century. We have not been able to identify the author of the map from his initials (A.M.L.)." (Begonia Le Bail, 2021)
