1844 Topographical Dictionary of the United Kingdom, by the editor and publisher of topographical dictionaries and maps of the Great Britain, Scotland, and Ireland, tending to illustrate the local history of English localities. Comprising of 57 maps, a general map of England and Wales, a plan of London, and 55 maps of the counties and islands, arranged alphabetically and divided into unions. Note beneath the maps” Drawn and engraved for Lewis' topographical dictionary”. Maps are hand colored in outline, some are folding. Showing administrative boundaries, cities, Boroughs, towns, roads, railroads, buildings, landmarks, rivers, canals, and bridges. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridian: Greenwich. Bound in olive embossed cloth, with gilt lettering on spine reads “Lewis’s Topographical Dictionary of England and Wales. Atlas”. Samuel Lewis and Co. was based in London. Samuel Lewis the elder died in 1865. His son of the same name predeceased him in 1862.
