Atlas of Asiatic Russia, commissioned in 1914 by the Resettlement Department of the Land Regulation and Agriculture Administration in Saint Petersburg. Edited by Grigorii Viacheslavich Glinka. Text by Ivan Ivanovich Tkhorzhevskim. Printed by A.F. Marks in Saint Petersburg. Covers the resettlement of Russian peoples east of Ural Mountains, to Siberia. Containing elaborate pictorial title page with coats of arms by S. Kushchenko, 71 thematic and administrative plates, including facsimile reproductions of historical maps in Latin, Russian and Dutch, with vignettes and notations. Includes descriptive text relating to each plate, and index of about 10,000 geographical names. Maps showing political and administrative boundaries, provinces, regions, types of land ownership, land use, city plans, landmarks, place names, roads, railways, postal routes, telegraph cables, rivers, lakes, canals, and mountains. Relief shown pictorially, by hachures and shadings. Statistical diagrams, document different aspects of the development of Asiatic Russia including the demographics, religion, education, climate, soils, land use, geological structure, trade, industry, transportation, and communications. Bound in Green cloth covered boards with coat of arms and title and on cover and on spine in gilt. The atlas was created at a time when this territory had received a new impetus to development from the reforms of Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin, initiated the growth of peasant resettlement movement from European Russia to Siberia and development of its natural resources, from 1906 to 1914. The atlas is an important graphic document showcasing the effect of the Stolypin Reforms.
