Pub Note:
An unrecorded issue of Carver's map. Not listed in Jolly's Maps in British Periodicals. The map appears to be bound in with the magazine, not a later addition. The paper the map is printed on is similar to the stock used for the printed pages of the magazine. It is watermarked "Bankers Linen." The map is inserted near an article titled "Some of the Circumstances which inevitably retard the Progress of a Northern Army through the uninhabited Countries of America." It has been suggested to us (JK) that the author of the article is Carver. The map differs from the third edition map in subtle ways, indicating that the plate was reengraved at some point and that this map may be a copy of the first edition (the Lucayos or Bahama lettering is changed - the "L" of Lucayos is almost touching the "s" of Augustine-which is a modern "s" as opposed to an old "f" in the book copy- whereas in the map in the book (first edition reproduced in Fite and Freeman, and the third edition) the "L" is 1/8th of an inch from the "i").
