"4 sheets. L1: 77x65 cm. L2: 82x64 cm. L3:77x63 cm. L4: 76x64 cm. size combined: approx. 159x128 cm. 1 of 3000 copies produced. Scale 1: 1 500 000. All the sheets of the map are folded in 6, leaf number The first Soviet map of this kind, it gives the detailed geological update on the region. Also the first geological study of Kazakhstan. It includes the territories of today’s Kirghizstan and Uzbekistan as well as the whole of Eastern Kazakhstan, from the Aral sea to the Chinese border. The low print-run as well as the note ‘Temporary edition’ next to a title of the map suggest that the next edition was planned to appear soon after, but in fact this remained the only detailed account of the geology of the region until the 1950s. Nikolay Kassin (1895-1949) was a Soviet geologist, professor of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR (1946), Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR (1943), these ranks were awarded for completing this map and his scientific discoveries. 1930s he has spent in expeditions through Kazakhstan, the end result, apart from the map, was the completion of Vol.10 of multi-volume reference ‘Geology of USSR’, that was dedicated to Kazakhstan. The development of national resources of Kazakh SSR and today’s Kazakhstan is largely based on the work of Kassin. " (Bookvica, 2024)
