Pub Note:
"This maybe ... an interesting rethinking of a frontier, in a way. There's been interest in this rethinking and reconciling of the periodic table. Much had developed since Mendeleev and the 19th century, and Dr Hyde configured a new view in the 1970's. Spent a wonderful afternoon with a gent that worked next door to Dr Hyde at Dow-Corning. "Dr Hyde was a humble and soft-spoken man" and of shorter stature. He was a well respected and appreciated figure in the lab who could be a resource if you were stuck on a problem. You could visit him in his lab and explain your dilemma and he'd offer five or six different approaches that you might take to get yourself unstuck and make progress. In his younger years Hyde had been experimenting on the side with types of silicon, and happened to create a really effective lubricant. This got noticed and passed up the chain to the U.S. Army that was having problems with getting planes across the Atlantic during WWII as the salt water mist would inevitably work its way into engines and rotors, and wreak havoc. His invention worked a charm and helped maintain the supply of vehicles. At one point Dr Hyde had offered his new perspective on the periodic table as a gift to lab associates and some business clients. Our friend that worked with Dr Hyde grabbed a copy and some of the promotional material. This is a clean instance still in original tube from that time." (Curtis Bird, 2024)
