Cram's "Portable. Washable" Map And Atlas Outfit
Pub Note:
On the inside of the case top are printed directions for use: "DIRECTIONS FOR USING CRAM'S "PORTABLE. WASHABLE" MAP AND ATLAS OUTFIT Consisting of Cram's Unrivaled World Atlas and nine large maps for wall use — State, United States, North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Mercator World and Hemisphere World The Cram Company has manufactured this set of school maps to eliminate much trouble and inconvenience resulting from using maps attached to spring rollers and mounted in wall-cases; also to avoid the unnecessary expense of buying expensive fixtures. By having each map a separate individual part of the complete set so mounted it can be easily unfolded and hung on hooks or nails, the teacher is able to show one or all the maps at the same time, thus giving a better idea of comparison. The eyelets for hanging are all an equal distance apart. Each map in the set has been hand mounted on cloth and especially treated with cellulose so as to make it a Washable Map. Cram's special cellulose surface is a thin, flexible celluloid pigment applied to the surface of the map. The teacher can mark or color the map with ink, water colors, paints, soft lead pencil or crayon. The ink or water colors can be erased with a damp cloth or sponge; the pencil or crayon markings with art gum. Thus the teacher can use these maps to record current events, show changes and illustrate historical and political happenings without injuring the map. When the maps become soiled by use clean them with a damp cloth or sponge. The Unrivaled Atlas has been prepared as a reference work of the entire world to be used along with the wall maps. The atlas gives every detail which is not possible to show on the wall maps and still make them clear and readable at a distance. Cram's Maps, Atlases and Globes are guaranteed to satisfy. THE GEORGE F. CRAM COMPANY, Indianapolis, Ind." The Unrivaled Atlas of the World was not present in this set but we will be adding it shortly. The inclusion of the Kansas maps indicates that this set was put together for a school in Kansas.
