First edition. Topographia Hassiæ et Regionum Vicinarum (1646) is one of the volumes in the monumental Topographia series by Matthaeus Merian the Elder, produced in collaboration with Martin Zeiller. This volume focuses specifically on the region of Hesse (Hassia in Latin) and its neighboring areas, providing an intricate visual and textual portrayal of these regions during the 17th century. The work concentrates on the Landgraviate of Hesse, a central German region, and adjacent territories. This includes important cities, towns, fortresses, and monasteries within and around Hesse.
