Publication Note: 1st ed. Issued during the French and Indian War, this work describes and maps many of the French possessions that were to pass to England at the War's conclusion in 1763. The 18 maps are all listed in Phillips and many (New Orleans, Louisburg) are the first maps listed or among the earliest listed for the areas mapped. All of the maps appeared also in Jeffery's General Topography of North America and the West Indies, 1768 (see P1196) and later states of the Nova Scotia map and the North America map appeared in Jeffery's American Atlas of 1775. Part I describes Canada and Louisiana, Part II French possessions in the West Indies. With the additional * leaves 129-138 and paste down errata on p. 80. This was Samuel Holland's copy with his signature on the title page. Holland was the first Surveyor General of the Northern Colonies, appointed in 1764, and one can imagine that this book was very important to him as a source for his early mapping projects.
