QuickTime VR of collection space
The Collections Ticker is a Flash-based thumbnail viewer that provides access to the entire David Rumsey Map Collection via the Insight™ Browser. Thumbnails and short descriptions of maps, charts, globes and other items automatically "scroll" across your desktop (similar to a news or stock ticker). Clicking on an image opens a larger view within the Insight™ Browser. The Collections Ticker requires the Flash player.

Launch the Collections Ticker:

Standard Window Size
(for 800 x 600 screens)

Expanded Window Size
(for 1024 x 768 screens or larger)

"Knowing what to search for" is a common barrier to accessing materials in large collections. With over 8,800 maps currently in the online collection, the Collections Ticker provides an alternative to structured searching. You can launch and and run the ticker at the bottom of your screen and click on interesting thumbnails or descriptions as they appear. The thumbnails and descriptions are drawn directly from the collection Insight database.

The Collections Ticker has two modes Random or Ordered. Ordered allows you to view Atlases and other related materials in the order in which they appear in the collection.

Random mode shows images in random order from the collection. In the future additional collections will be added to the ticker, allowing the Random function to "cross" collections mixing maps with other artwork and artifacts. The Reverse function is available once a full-strip of images is loaded. This function can be activated by mouse actions or under the Controls menu.

The Collections Ticker was developed by Ideum, in collaboration with David Rumsey. The Collections Ticker utilizes the Insight Browser developed by Luna Imaging, Inc.
