Probably Celio Parisani, Ascoli Piceno, Italy, c. 1750.[1] Hayward, London, England in 1816.[2] (Old Master Gallery, London, England by 1962);[3] purchased by MIA in 1962.[1] The work was attributed to Maratta at this time. The picture bears a label [Carlo Maratta/from/Palazzo Parisani]. This presumably refers to the palazzo Parisani in Ascoli Piceno which had contemporary pictures apparently purchased in Rome by Celio Parisani c. 1750. According to the 'Guide of B. Orsini', 1790, there were two Parisani palaces, one with "modern" pictures of Nobile Signore Emidio Parisani whose son the painter, Celio was in Rome around 1750.[2] This entry is confirmed according to the label of Baker's [Barker's?] Depository, Kensington, October 16, 1816.[3] The work was attributed to Maratta at this time.
