past ways to view the collections
Insight Browser -- this browser was developed by Luna Imaging in 2000 and has been replaced by the new LUNA Browser, released in 2008. |
Collections Directory -- this method of browsing the collections by categories and facets was developed in 2007 and has been replaced by the category and facets page of the new LUNA Browser of 2008. The link below is to the original Directory home page - this page has been kept for posterity, though the links within it have been updated to redirect into LUNA. |
Map Pages -- these map pages were created in 2000 in order to enable the collection metadata to be crawled and indexed by search engines, because the Insight Browser was closed to search crawlers. These pages have been replaced by the new LUNA Browser which allows all collection metadata to be crawled and indexed by search engines. |
Two Dimensional GIS Browser -- This was a special GIS (Geographic Information System) Browser that allowed integration and interaction of historical maps with current geospatial data and other historical maps. Examination of the maps in GIS reveals changes in the history of the areas shown on the maps. |
Three Dimensional GIS Browser -- This was a Web based 3D GIS viewer allowing users to experience the power and flexibility of desktop 3D GIS, using only their Web browsers and 3D video card capabilities. |
Visual Collections -- This site was established in 2004 as a central location for cultural collections in the Luna Insight software that were available free to the public. Over 300,000 images from over 50 collections have been made available here. In 2008, the establishment of LUNA Commons superseded the need for the Visual Collections site, but it remained active until the collections on it were moved over to the LUNA Commons. Visual Collections used the older Insight Browser and Java Client software, while LUNA Commons uses the new LUNA Browser software. |
